How Wanting Something Can Make you Sacrifice Everything
The truth about living your dream

Live your dream
We all want to life our dreams, don’t we? We are sold on an idea of a dream. “Live your dream”! “Love what you do” and etc. Does anyone ask questions such as: what does it take to live your dream? How easy is it to live your dream? We often dream about a better tomorrow but never dream about how does it actually feel to live the dream.
A dream in a dictionary means — “a cherished aspiration, ambition, or ideal” or an actual dream when sleeping. Living your dream isn’t a walk in a park. It’s not rosy and dreamy. It’s a bloody hard work that absolutely no-one talks about. That makes me angry. It’s like selling a balloon to me and then that balloon pops.
Living with the consequences
I have to live with the consequences. It’s my fault to have fallen for ‘to live my dream’. I don’t blame anyone because people I admire I assume they live their dream. I only see the glamour not the hardships they had to undertake. I live my dream because I am a writer and I get to write, and be paid for it too. I love it! It’s my dream!
However, living with it every day isn’t easy. That’s why you have to be very careful what you choose as your profession because you have to live with it, not from it. I understand when people say ‘you have to have passion’ for your job or what you love. The word passion is not the right word. It should be replaced with dedication and perseverance, not passion.
Do what you love
Passion is a short-lived affair and a word marketed to all of us. Passion is a sexy and attractive word that doesn’t convey the hardships that’s required to achieve your dream. It’s like having a perfect image of a man or woman and that’s it. The work behind it in order to create that perfect relationship is not conveyed or even communicated. It’s “selling an idea” not the reality.
If you decide to do ‘what you love’ you have to expect some hardships. A perfect relationship doesn’t just happen nor does your dream. You’ve got to be pretty determined to achieve your dream or to do what you love in order to turn it into a reality. You’ll have to sacrifice your time, some friends, move countries, move flats, family time and the list continues.
Sacrifices — sooner or later
Sure some of the dreams don’t require to do it all at once. However, sooner or later it will hit you like a ton of bricks and then you’ll realise. Living your dream isn’t eating your favourite ice-cream in the sun. That brief moment of satisfaction is shortly followed by what t** f**** just happened. Don’t get me wrong if your dream is a true path then it’s worth it.
The sacrifices you are going to make will make it all worthwhile. It’s worth to starve for a bit, live in shitty places and towns, not see your family for a year and so on. Because the return you’ll get from your dream is a triple effect. The world gives to those who give to the world. Call it the universe, karma or any other stuff but the outcome is the same magic.
Dream big anyway
I encourage everyone to live their dreams but don’t live in an illusion that’s going to be easier than your 9 to 5 job. It’s going to be harder and tougher thank you think. You are going to be on your own and deal with all emotions, doubt, fear and all other stuff by yourself. It will test your strength, focus, and ability to stick to your dream.
Follow your dreams. Dream big. It will cost you more than you think and it will be harder than you think but it’s totally worth it. Keep dreaming, keep creating and work your magic.
