Self-introspection is not only about reflecting on a situation but also involves being in touch with yourself, and understanding your actions, reactions, and their implications. A moment of quiet introspection helps you to analyze your actions in the short term, and improve as a person in the long term.
There are instances in life when you tend to learn the biggest lessons by reflecting on the most avoidable of circumstances. There are moments when people you consider friends pull you down, derive sadistic pleasure by either humiliating you on one or more occasions, and simply love to see you suffer.
Such a tendency not only indicates a negative mentality but is also a manifestation of schadenfreude. Whether it is intended or unintentional, such sadistic actions have a tendency to hurt. These episodes are immensely forgettable, no doubt, but the takeaways from them stay with us for a lifetime.
