Made It Through the Workweek — But What About the Next 40 Years?
Surviving another week feels insignificant compared to the next few decades of work ahead, here’s how to reclaim your time.
I will be 68 years old before I’m entitled to receive my state pension.
With the way things are going in the UK, I expect that to increase at least by a few years between then and now.
But this means I’ve got at least forty years left of working before I can officially retire. And that’s if I can even afford to by the time that comes around or the mandatory age isn’t raised by the government.
Being in the office on a Friday is hilarious. People are jovial, carefree, and indulgent as the lure of the weekend approaches. It is highly unlikely that anyone will be in a bad mood on a Friday.
Even though I tend to join in with the celebrations as this type of mood is contagious, at the back of my mind is always the tugging realisation that I’ve got another 40 years before I can embrace complete freedom from the chains of work.
I can’t help but feel like that is a grossly unfair way to live. After all, none of us chose to be born, so why should we have to spend all of our time working?
