Maybe You Don’t Have to Have the Gift of the Gab
And that’s okay.
“Can you tell me a little about yourself?”
I hate this question.
Always have.
I’m dreadful at telling people about myself. When people ask me this question, I’m stumped because there’s nothing I can say to sum me up in a few words. I always end up feeling as if I’m the most uninteresting, boring person alive, or worse, scrutinized for dispiriting social expectations or even my taste in music or TV series.
How’s that?
For instance, I recently told my therapist I rewatched the entire Game of Thrones and Vikings series. Yes, I’m currently not in the market for a Lamborghini. Obvious bet. So was the unmissable concern in the therapist’s eyes, and it wasn’t because I had rewatched two series I’d seen before. It was born from my choice of entertainment.
“Rewatching familiar shows is a thing for people in your situation,” she told me. You know, because people feeling the way I am right now find comfort in familiarity. She suggested that I watch something lighter, romantic, and feel-good instead of shows with blood and gore.
Well. Okay.
I happen to enjoy the series mentioned above. Between you and me, I might look away when it gets too…
