Not Everyone Is Meant to Stay
Draining connections aren’t worth keeping.
When I was younger, I thought relationships were supposed to last forever. I believed that friendships, romantic connections, or even casual acquaintances needed to be permanent. I would hold onto people tightly, convinced that letting go meant I had failed, that I hadn’t tried hard enough, or that I was somehow betraying them.
But as I’ve grown older, I’ve realized something liberating: “forever” is just a myth we’ve been sold. People come into your life like seasons. They drift in and out for different reasons. Some stay for a few pages of your story, others for entire volumes, but almost everyone is here for a reason, even if that reason isn’t forever.
I think that’s kind of wonderful. It means I haven’t stayed the same person my whole life. It means I’ve grown.
Now I see the value in recognizing who actually adds to my life and who doesn’t.
If you’re someone who’s always looking for ways to grow, to bounce back after life throws you a curveball, why spend your days with someone who’s always complaining but never doing anything to change it?
Maybe you’re thinking, “But what if I can inspire them to do better?” Sure, sometimes that happens. But the truth is, people only change when they want…
