They are Trying to Steal the Election

How not knowing how the system works makes people easy to manipulate

Republicans claim Democrats stole the last national election. Now, both sides seem to be gearing up to accuse the other side of cheating when they lose.

Most of the problem is that people don’t know how voting works, which makes it easier to get people to believe whatever you want them to think. When you understand how it works, you see how hard it would be to steal an election.

I was a reporter for more than 30 years. I’ve seen the sausage made and understand how it works. I have always assumed there was some cheating by both sides and that they cancel each other out for the most part. I still think that is the case.

Last week I wrote about freedom of speech. This week I am writing about elections because most Americans still need to learn how voting works.

It would take a naive person not to see all our institutions are under attack. News reports and social media tell us that all of them are evil and should not be trusted. With this constant bombardment, it’s hard to believe in anything. We…
