Building fruitful and lasting relationships starts with abandoning the conventional ‘‘me’’-based thoughts that are so prevalent in
the business world and so easy to slip into in our personal lives.

1. You Don’t Truly Love Each Other

You enjoy the idea of being in love. It makes you feel warm and fuzzy. Being in love makes you feel like someone appreciates you.

You enjoy having a companion. Yet, your partner isn’t someone that makes you feel complete. Your insecurities have allowed you to settle for this person.

You can’t stand to be alone, and so you settled for this person because they were willing to accept you.

2. You Don’t Communicate Effectively

One or both of you have a tough time expressing your thoughts and feelings. Therefore, small problems turn into huge issues over time.

You blow up at each other. Both of you complain that “you aren’t a mind-reader.” Of course, you aren’t mind-readers; you’re just terrible communicators.

3. You Don’t Trust Each Other
