Get More Done By Doing Less
Take a contrarian view of achieving your goals
Parkinson’s law says, “work expands so as to fill the time available for its completion.” Parkinson made his observations while working for the British Civil Service. The opposite is also true. Work is constrained to the time available.
The real key is to work smarter, not harder, which is another cliche that holds a lot of truth.
Working harder is not the answer to being more productive. Working with efficiency and focus is a good answer. There are no bonuses for doing something the hard way. There are no bonus points for taking three hours to do something you could have done in two hours.
Three points that can make you more efficient:
- Start any project with the time you have, and plan accordingly.
- Second, focus on the job itself and maintain strict boundaries.
- Third, you are not as effective when you are tired. There is no point in working beyond that amount of time.
