What I Wish People Knew About Digital Nomads

A lot of people don’t like digital nomads. They’re tired of seeing posts on social media about people sipping cocktails on tropical beaches with the caption #BestLifeEver.

But that’s not me. I’m not traveling to a new country every week on a never-ending vacation. Nor am I relaxing by the ocean, selling overpriced online courses, and reading The Four-Hour Workweek by Tim Ferriss.

You see, a lot of social media posts are filled with more BS than a poop sandwich. Many people enjoy talking about the glamorous elements of being a digital nomad. However, they conveniently forget to mention what happens when you pull back the curtain and reveal what’s underneath.

99% of my days, for example, are spent behind a laptop. I have things on my to-do list and can’t afford to get distracted by mango cocktails in Thailand. I’m also lovingly referred to as a keyboard gremlin by my girlfriend — because writing articles online is necessary to survive.

Being a digital nomad is a choice. It’s one I willingly make every day — and nobody is holding a gun to my head — forcing me to work remotely. The truth is that I enjoy the freedom of traveling, visiting new countries, and immersing myself in a variety of different…
