BETTER LIVING
Why is it Called a Midlife ‘Crisis?’
And why is it seemingly only men who have them?
Jeff is still saved as ‘Thailand Dad’ on my phone. He was something of an inspiration while I lived there and always gave good advice.
We met on my first day in Chiang Mai at a nomad meet-up. He had ice white hair and a goatee, but dressed well and clearly still went to the gym. A new scorpion tattoo on his forearm was protected by plastic wrap.
Everyone seemed to know this guy already, and most would excitedly greet him as they entered the event. Young women, especially.
I had a ton of questions about Thailand, and Jeff seemed like the guy who’d have the best answers.
I told him as much as I sat next to him, then asked about the best spots to meet hot Thai women and how to tell if they were ladyboys.
Jeff took this as an invitation to show photos of the women he was dating. Three or four young Asian cuties. Not bad for a dude in his late fifties. Oh, and a ladyboy’s hands are the biggest giveaway, he said.
Jeff invited me to ride motorbikes with some ladies from the meet-up, but I declined as I wasn’t a confident driver. Dammit, how was this boomer ten times cooler than me?!
