Your Impact is So Much Bigger than You Know
keep doing what you’re doing

I get it, you feel discouraged sometimes.
Am I really helping anyone? Is this all just a big waste of time? Is my purpose just a silly dream?
I know I ask myself these questions when I have a setback or when things don’t seem to be moving forward the way I want.
A reader reminded me last week that it IS all worth it.
She told me she’s just one of many people I’ve inspired.
She’s the exception, most people don’t tell you how you’ve impacted their lives.
For every person who does express their gratitude, there are a hundred…a thousand…many thousands who appreciate you but don’t say anything.
I know for certain this is true.
Years ago, when I sold my chiropractic practice I was stunned by how many people gave me heartfelt gratitude in the days up to me leaving.
They never expressed the impact I made in their lives until I was days away from the sale.
Sure, I knew I was doing some good, because the practice was always busy and patients seemed happy. But it was rare for anyone to ever express the difference I made in their lives.
It’s the same for you. You ARE making a difference in people’s lives.
People are counting on you to write your next piece or post your next video, or sell your next creation.
People need you, so don’t determine you’re not making a difference just because they don’t tell you.
Dig up our motivation and inspiration from within you.
Gratitude from others is the cherry on top. It’s lovely, but you can’t use it as your reason to keep doing your thing.

This is how you keep doing your thing.
You have a purpose. You have something important to tell the world. You’re filling a need for people who won’t find it anywhere else.
Write that purpose down. Tape it on your computer if it helps. Read that thing every single day.
You need to do this because your impact is so much bigger than you know.
Cliff Weitzman may not have known he was writing a sentence that would hit me hard, but it was life changing for me.
“ Remember, that above all else, your mission is to be who you needed most when you were growing up.” @cliffweitzman
You’re doing the same thing for many other people. You have a message that’s filling an emptiness in someone.
My friend Adam, Diabetic Cyborg recently discovered this too. His piece rekindled my inspiration.
There’s a lot of un-glamorous work in the creative fields. You’re in the trenches most of the time.
While glory or recognition may feel good at the moment, it burns itself out, so be driven by a deeper purpose.
Take small steps every day toward that purpose, and you’ll keep changing lives.
