Your Writing Matters. But This Matters Even More.

There are so many fantastic writers out there, it can be flat-out overwhelming. It is easy to get lost in the mix and wonder if the words you write have an impact.

While your words do matter — your story matters more.

You can tell your story in more than one way.

You are already familiar with the written word, but there are two other ways you can tell your story.

That’s where the Triple Threat comes in: audio, video, and text.

Start Sharing Stories In Audio Form

I’m willing to bet you’ve already got some written content out there. You can read that content out loud. That’s a great place to start.

Don’t aim for perfect. Aim for something that helps others and tells a good story.

You can read your words and share them via audio. Podcasting, audiobooks and even reading blog posts are great ways to connect with your audience.

Focus on passion at this stage, not perfectionism.

Start Using Video To Tell Stories

I know what you’re thinking: “I’m an introverted writer. I don’t want to get behind the camera.” I’m too fat, I’m too skinny, I’m too ugly, I’m too pretty, etc. Before you leave that in a comment, let me explain something. Video doesn’t have to be fancy. You don’t need an expensive rig or anything like that.

I’m not saying you want to put out something lousy, but if you create something that is super helpful, you don’t have to worry about technology.

That phone nearby offers you something that generations before never had.

You have the opportunity to connect with your audience in a way that few have before in human history. Think about that: you can literally reach millions of people today with that device in your hand.

Don’t let your bad hair day, bags under your eyes or messy room stop you from sharing your story with the world.

And if you feel a little insecure, turn off the comments in the video post. You do not have to have the comments on. It is completely up to you.

The Takeaway

Tell your story. Tell your story in more than one way. Whether or not you realize it, you are a content producer.

The more content you create in different mediums, the better you can serve your audience.

Start wherever is easiest for you. Play to your strengths. If you don’t write first, if you decide to start with audio or video, in no way does that mean you are not a “real writer.” That’s fear talking. Don’t listen to it.

Now go. Go create and share stories to serve others.
