What is the Right Mattress Size for You?
Once you take into account the limitations of your bedroom, you’re ready to choose the right mattress based on your body type and lifestyle.
Twin Size Mattress
Twin mattress dimensions are 39 inches wide by 75 inches long. Twin size mattress is generally a good choice for young kids and teens. However, if you have a growing teenager whose feet begin to hang off the mattress, you might want to go with a Twin XL mattress, which is often bought for college bedrooms. Twin XL is the same width as a Twin but is 5 inches longer.
Full Size Mattress
A full size mattress is 54 inches wide by 75 inches long and is a great choice for single sleepers who are not too tall. If you’re a very tiny and short couple you can try sleeping on a full, but most couples won’t be very comfortable on it.
Queen Size Mattress
Queen size mattresses are the most popular choice for couples. Queen size mattress dimensions are 60 inches wide by 80 inches long, which leaves ample room for a single sleeper, and is comfortable enough for many couples.
King Size Mattress
For some couples, a queen size mattress might not be enough and they may have to go with a king. The king size mattress dimensions are 76 inches wide by 80 inches long, which means you will both have enough space (38 inches for each of you) to sleep comfortably.
If you’re lucky enough to have enough space for it in your bedroom, a king-size mattress prepares you for all life situations, such as your toddler twins or your pet German Shephard deciding to join you in bed one day.
California King Size Mattress
A California King is a great choice for very tall people who don’t necessarily need the width of a king-size mattress. The California king mattress size is 72 inches wide by 84 inches long.
Make sure to measure the dimensions of your bedroom carefully before you get one. You will be getting a narrower mattress than a king but also a longer one. You don’t want your feet dangling off your mattress, but you don’t want them to be out in the hall either.
