DURANGO, Colo. (AP) — A ski resort in southwestern Colorado has announced it is extending its season through April due to snowy conditions.

The Durango Herald reports that Purgatory Resort, about 30 miles north of Durango, made the announcement Tuesday.

Spokeswoman Kim Oyler says the ski area will remain open daily through April 2. The ski area will then reopen Friday through Sunday, from April 7 to April 30.

Oyler says Purgatory has already received more snow this winter than all of last ski season.

More snow is expected to come toward the end of the month, with a storm forecast in the region next week.

Chris Cuoco with the National Weather Service says a storm system is predicted to move into the area Monday and bring snow until Thursday.
