A painting of hip hop artist Kendrick Lamar will be on display at the U.S. Capitol, thanks to Congressman Scott Tipton and a Pueblo teen.

Each year Tipton hosts the 3rd Congressional District Art Competition, which included entries from Pueblo, Creede and Telluride this year.

Tiona Cordova, a senior at Centennial High School in Pueblo won the 2017 competition with her original work of the rapper — titled “Utmost Respect.”

“These students have remarkable, artistic abilities and I am always incredibly proud of the artwork they produce every year,” Tipton said in a news release.

“The panel of judges has a tough task of selecting a winner, as the works submitted are all worthy of appreciation and demonstrate impressive skill. I want to congratulate Tiona for her exceptional painting this year and thank all of the students who participated.”

As first place winner, Cordova received a trip to Washington, D.C., for the Congressional Institute’s Awards Reception on June 29.
