The Hayden Pass Fire Facebook Page.

The Facebook page monitoring the Hayden Pass Fire that has been burning since July 12 shared a photo of hope on the mountain Tuesday morning.

A tiny plant perched between big rocks that look more like charcoal and a backdrop of singed pine trees appear at the burn scar 20 southeast of Salida.

“Looking at blackened hillsides can be deceiving. In a way, it’s like looking at a faraway green mountainside in the summer and not being close enough to see the flowers growing,” the page poetically wrote on the caption of the photo.

“’There are no flowers,’ you might suppose. Some of our blackened mountainsides are beginning to come back to life. They, when you take a closer look, are showing patches of green.”

The photo was taken a little over a week ago, according to the page, by a a member of the Burned Area Emergency Response team. There are currently 81 personnel at the fire, which is 60 percent contained.

“A sign of life, a sign of hope, a sign of recovery,” the page wrote of the tiny hint of returning growth.
