I was chatting with a new contact on LinkedIn. Hi, David :)

I said: “I mostly share my opinions about content marketing because I am a bit tired of people and companies making it sooo complicated.”

Really. Content marketing is not something new. It’s not something you don’t know. It’s just a conversation. It’s just getting social. Let it stay simple.

Content marketing tips

When you meet a new person, you develop a conversation depending on the conditions you are in, right? Same here in content marketing.

The platform, the situation, the people, the intention, the message, the topic… everything affects what to say and how to say it. So here are my very, very, very simple tips for better content marketing:

  • There are various platforms. However, you don’t have to be active everywhere. Especially if you don’t have money, choose efficient ways to do content marketing with a low budget. For example, a message on LinkedIn is content marketing. This newsletter is content marketing. They are for free. Publishing a video on YouTube is free. Here is my free account on Medium. I get many clicks on these articles. All these can be done totally for free if you create your own content, or you just pay people to create content. It means, unlike ads, you have your content once, and you get benefits forever without paying for it again and again.
  • You can also pay for some platforms if you have a budget. There is no harm, and it’s not stupid. They will pay you with backlinks and leads.
  • Checking out your competitors is good, but don’t copy them without thinking. Maybe they are not really doing good. 🤭 Be creative and open-minded. You can do better.
  • If you address people who already know the topic, don’t bother them with extremely beginner lever info. Instead, add value; go deeper.

PS: You can create one beginner-level article and then give a link to it for some readers if they need to see it. So you will not need to repeat the same things.

  • If your topic is new and complicated, start with a simple definition. For example, here, I spare quite a lot of space explaining NFT because it’s still new: The Ultimate Guide for NFT Marketing Strategy.
  • DON’T PUSH ALL THE BUTTONS. Unfortunately, I still see companies trying to use each piece of content as a company presentation.
  • Be conversational. People don’t really read encyclopedias anymore.
  • And the classic: remember that your marketing efforts should focus on your target audience, not your brand, services, or product.

That’s it for now.

I’ll be happy to mention good content marketing samples in my newsletter. Send me an e-mail [hgizemtas (at) gmail (dot) com] or a message on LinkedIn (https://www.linkedin.com/in/hgizemtas/) to let me know about your work.
