Sports Award Day celebrated at BBK DAV, Amritsar

Students of BBK DAV, Amritsar won laurels for their performances in sports throughout the session and they were felicitated with awards on the Sports Awards Day. Around 300 players were awarded and appreciated for their performances in the sports and motivated to take the level of the same, a step further.

The chief guest on the occasion was the Vice Chairman of National Commission for Scheduled, Castes, Raj Kumar Verka. The deputy director of sports and head, department of Physical Education at Guru Nanak Dev University was the guest of honour at the event.

Students presented a number of fabulous performances for the audience and the yoga performance showed the core strength and focus with which they had prepared for their act. It is always an honour and a matter of pride for the institution to see its students becoming champions in different fields of interest.

Dr. Pushpinder Wali, the Principal of the institution, warmly welcomed the guests at the event. The Principal had also prepared an annual sports report of the institution, which she had presented at the event, and even briefed the audience about the achievements of its students in different segments of sports. To help the sports enthusiasts groom themselves, the institution has been supporting them in all possible ways, whether it is financial assistance, free hostel stays or even transportation for their comfort.

On seeing that this all-girls college had such great sports players, Dr. Verka mentioned that female foeticide is one of the major issues, which is being faced by the country today and examples like this help in getting away with such social evils. He even offered a financial assistance of Rs. 5 lakh for the grooming of women sports players by the college, which will further help in getting rid of this orthodox thinking pattern of the society.

Along with the students, around 50 coaches were also honoured at the event, for their efforts in training these champions. One of the alumnus of the institution, Pana Chaudhary, had represented India in the year 2014, at Commonwealth Games for cycling, was specially honoured at the occasion. The award for the best player was given to Seema Verma, because of her outstanding performance in not only sports segment but also even academics.
