As soon as fall hits, Dandelion Chocolate knows it’s time to plan its holiday cards. And for the past three years, the company has turned to the Punkpost team of handwriting artists to pen gorgeous notes to their chocolate community, business partners, chefs, wholesale customers, friends and neighbors.

Before using Punkpost, the Sf-based company’s team wrote and mailed all the holiday cards themselves. But as soon as they heard of Punkpost, they jumped at the opportunity for assistance. “We loved the idea that there was a business out there who thought of such a creative idea,” says Jennifer Roy, Director of Marketing and PR.

Now, they create their own cacao-inspired cards, have them printed, and then work with Punkpost to write and mail the custom cards. “There really aren’t any cacao-themed cards on the market,” Roy says, “so it’s fun to create something that we know our friends will appreciate.”

Besides just being fun, Dandelion Chocolate sees it as a way of thanking and spreading goodwill to their community. “The chocolate making community is young and growing. Most chocolate makers are budget and resource constrained and we all help each other out. It would be easy to become territorial. However, it benefits everyone to maintain goodwill and open doors. Our cards are part of that community cultivation.”

Part of community cultivation involves thinking beyond the obvious people to thank each year. “We sent a holiday card to our health inspector and she loved the hand-written note,” Roy says. “I don’t think health inspectors receive many holiday cards, especially since your health inspector may change from time to time and… well, it’s the health inspector!”

They don’t send cards to make business deals or get responses. It’s just something the company loves to do. “But every once in a while someone will mention how much they look forward to receiving our cacao-themed holiday cards each year,” Roy says. “It’s hard to put a price on that!”
