Meet Amy Riggan. She’s a Handwriting Artist who joined the team in June 2017. That means we just celebrated one year of Amy! Of course, we celebrated by sending her a card.

When she’s not celebrating writing milestones, she’s sipping iced coffee and hanging with her two cats, Lyle and Olive. She also likes to go to the beach and eat tacos. Basically, she’s the best friend you want to have.

She’s a big fan of snail mail, which probably isn’t a surprise. “I love the personal touch. We live in such a digital age, it’s nice to bring back the simplicity of writing your thoughts on paper and mailing them.”

Now that you know a little about Amy, check out some of her fave creations from the past year and hit up the fast facts at the end for all the juicy details about her.

Another Amy: Leave to Amy Riggan to draw an amazing Amy Winehouse. This card is “just a fun reminder of what sounds like a top-notch night between friends and I love being part of that memory for them.”

Happy, happy birthday: Amy knows how to make a birthday card fun, colorful and out of this world.

Friendly banana: We don’t always understand all of your inside jokes, but we will definitely use them as inspiration when scripting your card.

Yaaasss gurl: This sounds like the best kind of afternoon, and Amy nailed the doodles for these best bitches.

Super cards: Amy delivered heroically for this awesome auntie. We can just imagine how much these kiddos loved their birthday cards.

Dear Jacob: Last fall, lots of cards came through for dear Jacob. “I wrote so many cards for him last Christmas, and it was such a special honor to be able to bring him joy during that time. Jacob was a boy with childhood cancer. His doctors told him that he wouldn’t make it past Christmas because of how aggressive his cancer was. So his dad started a Facebook movement for people to send him Christmas cards from all over the world.” Jacob isn’t with us anymore, but his love of cards and Christmas lives on.

Fast facts about Amy:

  • Location: Jacksonville, Florida
  • When she’s not writing cards: She’s working, studying to get into nursing school or hanging out with friends.
  • Writing background: After college, she needed a hobby and a creative outlet. She decided to try a copperplate calligraphy class to see if that art would fill the void and it sure did.
  • Go-to doodles: Flowers and leaves
  • Favorite writing utensil: Tombow Fudenosuke hard tip brush pen and Crayola Super Tips
  • Favorite colors to use in cards: Teals and greens
  • Favorite stamps: National Parks Forever
  • Favorite cards to write: Christmas, which means she has a few more months until the fun begins again.
  • Workspace: Her bedroom
  • Favorite background noise: The Office or Gilmore Girls
  • Favorite time to write: At night
  • Writing process: She turns on The Office or Gilmore Girls, depending on her mood. Then, she reads the message and checks which style the customer requested. From there, she picks out colors she thinks the sender will like and pulls design ideas from the message.
  • Cards written (so far): 740+
  • Skill building: “I write on everything, especially napkins at restaurants. I’m always doodling.”
  • Inspiration: To amp up her flower skills, she looks to another art: tattoos. Pinterest is also a great source of lettering and doodle ideas.
