Meet Chelsea Bachman. She’s a Handwriting Artist who joined the team in January 2017.

During that time, she has written thousands of cards and designed two of the cards you can order from our app or web-based platform, such as “Nevertheless She Persisted” from our Stronger Together Collection and “Happy Thanksgiving” shown here.

She’s originally from South Jersery, but moved to Florida eight years ago to attend the University of South Florida. She’s since graduated with a marketing degree and works full time as a marker research analyst for an ad agency in Orlando that specializes in travel and hospitality.

“I always knew I wanted to do something in an artistic field when I grew up,” she says. “Unfortunately, until recently, I didn’t even realize that lettering could be a job in itself, hence the market research.”

But now she’s added a creative side gig to her life, Punkpost. Here are just a few of her favorite assignments from the past year:

Yasss queen: Any Broad City fans out there? Chelsea was thrilled to have this one come across her desk.

Long note with a long-necked giraffe: When you sign off with a fun name, she is obviously going to have to give you a drawing worthy of it, and the rest of this love card.

She’s got style: Chelsea has a way with letters. She has fun capitals, classic bubble letters and beautiful script. That’s not even all she has to offer.

Pizza our heart: We’re a sucker for pizza and love when customers order a slice from us. If Chelsea’s your handwriting artist, she’ll obviously deliver, even if it is a little cheesy.

Spring has sprung: Florals are one of her favorite things to draw in cards, whether it’s for a friend, a lover or mom. She also is always learning new styles of flowers to keep her work fresh.

Santa’s helper: During the holidays, Chelsea got to help deliver a little holiday magic to two boys. “My handwriting had become Santa’s handwriting and brought joy and excitement to these two little boys. It was definitely a cool moment for me to see how my handwriting and something I created is brought into another person’s life.”

Fast facts about Chelsea:

  • Location: Orlando, Florida
  • When she’s not writing cards: She’s snuggling her two fur babies — boxer mix named Otis and a cat named Penny Lane—and her husband, and binging on Netflix shows. If you see her out of the house, she trying out new bars and restaurants in Orlando. “I’m a big fan of brunch and really anything involving breakfast foods.”
  • Writing background: She’s loved lettering since she was a kid, and constantly wrote her friends’ names in bubbles letters. She also picked it up from her mama, who is an artist and has gorgeous handwriting.
  • Go-to doodles: Florals. She’s always looking for new flower tutorials.
  • Favorite writing utensil: For cards, her go-to tools are Crayola Supertips and Tombow Mono Drawing Pens, “but my first and true love in lettering is the pointed pen.” She specifically likes her Ash Bush carrot holder, Hiro 41 nib, and Winsor & Newton gouache.
  • Favorite stamps: Love Flourishes, which feature art by Anna Bond of Rifle Paper Co. “I live about ten minutes from the Rifle Paper Co. flagship store so anything and everything Rifle will always be my favorite.”
  • Favorite cards to write: Every card is fun to design, but “there’s something so nice about writing a ‘just because’ card for someone.”
  • Workspace: At her typically messy home office desk.
  • Favorite background noise: Netflix, but it needs to be a show she’s seen before, otherwise, she spends more time watching than writing.
  • Favorite time to write: In the evening after her full-time day job.
  • Writing process: Typically, she will pencil out the design first, picking words to emphasize and doodles to add. Then, she starts inking the words with the help of her lightboard. Once all the words are in, which is the most important part, she’ll add in doodles, such as flowers or polka dots, to give it a little extra pizzazz.
  • Cards written (so far): 1,000+
  • Skill building: She uses Skillshare to bolster her lettering skills and attends local artists’ workshops.
  • Inspiration: The Modern Calligraphy Summit has helped her learn lots of new techniques and improve her skills. When she’s looking for even more inspiration, she heads to Pinterest.
