Meet Kirby Darden. She’s a Handwriting Artist who joined the team in December 2016.

During that time, she has written thousands of cards and designed two of the cards you can order from our app, such as the “Thankful” shown below and “Never Quit” from our Stronger Together Collection.

But back to her cards, because we know you want to see more of her work. Here’s just a few of her favorites, including some with great Mother’s Day inspiration.

Happy Mother’s Day! This time of year is Kirby’s favorite. She loves all the heart-felt notes headed off to mom and she could draw flowers all day. No really, she loves drawing flowers. (If you haven’t ordered your Mother’s Day card yet, now is the time!)

More flowers. We weren’t kidding about Kirby’s love of flowers. She draws them in all colors, and uses them as embellishments for wedding congrats, get-well-soon notes and birthday celebrations.

Outdoor adventures: Kirby likes to hike, so she gets excited when the opportunity for a nature theme arises in a card. Plus, puppies— another of her fave doodles.

Fast facts about Kirby:

  • Location: Sandy Springs, Georgia
  • When she’s not writing cards: When she’s not writing your Punkpost cards, she’s working with kids through her church. This job brings together her favorite things: kids, church, arts and crafts, and animal crackers. In her spare time, she likes to hike, cook and visit her family with her husband of two years. She’s also a proud graduate of Agnes Scott College.
  • Writing background: In 2015, she started learning brush lettering to use on her wedding invitations. “They looked terrible, but I stuck with it after the wedding.”
  • Go-to doodles: Flowers, as seen above
  • Favorite writing utensil: the Kelly Creates small brush marker set
  • Favorite stamps: Love Flourishes, which feature art by Anna Bond of Rifle Paper Co.
  • Favorite cards to write: She loves Mother’s Day cards (perfect timing!) and sympathy cards because they are always full of so much love, and she can use her go-to doodle: flowers.
  • Workspace: Her home office or living room, depending on the lighting
  • Favorite background noise: She doesn’t listen to anything while writing. “I get too distracted by a good song!”
  • Favorite time to write: She pops dinner in the over and gets to work. “It helps me unwind.”
  • Writing process: She sketches out the card on lined notebook paper, and then uses a lightboard to trace it on the card. “The second version of the card always looks better than the first draft on paper, so to me, it’s worth it to take the extra time.”
  • Cards written (so far): 1,000+
  • Skill building: “I am constantly lettering. At work, I make sure my meeting notes are pretty. At home, I make sure my grocery list is pretty.”
  • Inspiration: Instagram is a big source of inspiration. She followers hundreds of calligraphers and letters on Instagram.

Stay tuned: Each month we feature another member of the team so you can get to know the real people behind every doodle and letter that’s sent with Punkpost. And if you can’t wait a whole month, you can order a Mother’s Day (May 13), Father’s Day (June 17) or a summer birthday card. Who knows, maybe Kirby will draw you some flowers.
