Meet Stephanie: A Tennessee Lady with a Love for Animals

Meet Stephanie Cook. She’s a Handwriting Artist who joined the team in October 2017.

She lives near the Smoky Mountains with her husband of 14 years, Michael, and their rescue cats. And, shhh, don’t tell the cats, but she actually made a wiener dog design for our recent birthday collection. Luckily, she’s got a thing for all animals, and frequently visits the zoo and aquarium.
Now that you know a little about her, let’s look at the handwritten designs she created for customers this past year.

Photography connection: Stephanie is also a photographer, so it’s fun to see her using her skills to support other photographers around the country with a handwritten thank you.

Pet sympathy: Dogs (and all other pets) are part of the family. We’re honored to be able to send love when the heart is hurting.

Mom memories: Lovely lettering and delicate flowers make this heartfelt card sing.

Woohoo: Who knew turning 7 could be so much fun? It’s even more fun when you get a special, custom card like this.

Beautiful unicorn: Stephanie made this magical unicorn even more magical with a dusting of glitter. She’s know for her marker experimentation, and we all learn so much from her!

Halloween ready: Halloween cards will be coming across Stephanie’s desk soon enough, and she’s pumped about it. It’s one of her favorite card-writing holidays.

Birthday celebration: If you’re gonna emphasize words, those are the ones.

State to state: When a card has a long way to go between besties, Stephanie loves to add the state outlines to the card.

Doodle master: You want Deadpool riding a unicorn? Stephanie’s got ya.

Cutest combo: If you thought Deadpool and a unicorn was the cutest combo, you hadn’t seen taco pup yet. It’s got to be our favorite of them all.
Fast facts about Stephanie:
- Location: Knoxville, Tennessee
- When she’s not writing cards: She’s spending time with her husband and their kitty cats. They love going to the zoo and aquarium, finding new places to eat, and taking afternoon trips to the Smoky Mountains.
- Writing background: She’s always been creative, but in December 2016, she decided she wanted to make her Christmas cards more festive and personal. So she grabbed a box of Crayola markers and just had fun. The rest is history!
- Go-to doodles: Banners, flowers, hearts and stars.
- Favorite writing utensil: Zebra super fine brush pen and Crayola Super Tips.
- Favorite colors to use in cards: A combination of blue, red/pink and yellow.
- Favorite stamps: Dragons.
- Favorite cards to write: Halloween and Christmas cards. For the rest of year, she loves trying new techniques in birthday cards.
- Workspace: A large corner desk in the living room.
- Favorite background noise: A TV show or a movie playing, such as Beauty and the Beast, Psych, Frasier or Friends.
- Favorite time to write: Late morning and early afternoon. “My husband leaves for work at 4 a.m., so I grab a few more hours of sleep before pouring the coffee and writing your cards.”
- Writing process: She takes cues from the message, unless the person left specific requests. For birthday cards, she’ll add candles, cake and balloons. When it’s a long-distance bestie situation, she loves to add outlines of the states each one lives in.
- Cards written (so far): 1,200
- Skill building: Much of her practice comes from daily Punkpost cards, but she also uses her iPad to try out new doodles and letters. “Lettering and drawing are very relaxing to me, and I try to practice every day.”
- Inspiration: Instagram and Pinterest offer so many ideas. She also highly recommends the Punkpost lettering worksheets, which you can only get if you’re subscribed to our newsletter.
