‘In a state of tumultuous flux, governments stand poised to unleash their armies at the merest scintilla of provocation. A purveyor of defamation, the media scapegoats foreigners. The factories are polluting the air with their emissions, just like they are polluting the water. Automation leads to further job losses. The worker is enslaved. The manager thinks only of wealth, and will make any concession to earn more. Education has become a mere formality, a sop to the government’s conscience, so that it can claim that there are still schools in the country. Human clones, devoid of individual thought, have had their minds erased.’
