Praying for the Parlay
It’s not easy to win when you’re betting multiple games
The sweat was running down Eddie Solomon’s face. He stared at the television screen in complete disbelief. The shaggy mop of hair on his head almost stood up on his five-foot-seven frame. His horn-rimmed glasses were fogging up. Eddie was in a state of disbelief. The Cleveland Browns, without their Star Quarterback, had upset the Dallas Cowboys, and he was one game away from a fortune.
Every week for seventeen years, Eddie played the parlay. If he could pick the winners of thirteen NFL games over a weekend, he would receive a sizeable sum of money. If he didn’t get them all, he got nothing. He was now closer than he had ever been. He was one game away from winning the parlay.
Eddie’s girlfriend, Leah had once added up all the money he had spent over the years and had come to the sad conclusion that he would have made more just paying himself weekly and depositing the money in a bank account.
The thing was, he was now close to the finish line. There was only one team that he needed a win from. The powerful Buffalo Bills who were playing at home against the really crappy Carolina Panthers. The odds of Buffalo winning as set by the Las Vegas bookmakers was fifteen to one. Eddie could finally feel victory. It was within his grasp.
