Summer Love at the Island Tides — Part One
Wade and Keith, best friends since junior high, are given a week at Keith’s grandparents' condo on Buzby Beach as a graduation present
“Dang, Keith, how much stuff are you bringing to the beach?” Wade asked his best friend as the other recent high school graduate loaded one more suitcase into the trunk of his blue and white 1967 Chevelle convertible.
Wade was standing next to his red 1968 El Camino. The tall, sandy-haired eighteen-year-old rolled his pale blue eyes and looked at the old duffel bag in the bed of his El Camino. The duffel bag and the El Camino once belonged to Wade’s Uncle Jimmy. Wade’s mother’s only sibling, James Erikson, died in Vietnam in 1973. He left everything he owned to Wade, including his life insurance. The life insurance wasn’t much, but it would put Wade through college.
“I want to make sure I have enough clothes to wear,” Keith said. He slammed the trunk closed.
“We’re spending a week at the beach, Keith,” Wade told the other boy.
“I don’t want to run out of anything,” Keith said. “I don’t plan on doing any laundry…
