The opening chapter is here;

“Mike. Did you hear me? I need you to recognize that your employment is terminated and that you accept the severance package.”

He squinted at the TV and pressed the phone against his ear, understanding that both existed but caring about neither. “What? Yeah. I’m fired. I got it. What do you want me to say, ‘Thanks for calling?’”

“Okay. That’s fair. Do you have any questions or concerns I can address at this point? Don’t worry about coming in. We’ll have your office packed and everything shipped to your place. You don’t need to worry about a thing. We have people who do this — they’ll handle your stuff with care.”

“I do have a few questions, Nathan.”

“Sure, Mike. Shoot.”

“Reverie — was she on your list too? Or has she proven indispensable to you in the seven months she’s been with the company? Do her tits help your bottom line?”
