Alan Mendix minded his own business. He had graduated with a math degree with a minor in statistics from Carleton University. Upon graduation he had been offered a job with the National Research Council. His daily life consisted of taking numbers gained from surveys and polls and predictive algorithms' and analyzing them for a variety of different purposes. As an example Seniors who were worried about a sliding scale pension proposal were the topic of the day for the Government. Since the current government held a Majority position in the House, they didn’t want to lose the next election. They were working on formulating policy that would help them win support from the burgeoning senior’s market. They didn’t want the opposite to happen and end up out of office.

Alan’s office (it was more of a broom closet) was located on the seventeenth floor in downtown Ottawa in the Sir John A McDonald building. His co-workers were always amazed. Alan was twenty five and built like a bean pole. He was six foot one and thin. He wore horn rimmed glasses and had a red moustache that complimented his thick black curly hair. He always seemed to be in a great mood, even when his immediate Supervisor, Donna Whitcomb gave him a hard time over the smallest things. They…
