About Purple People
What is Purple People?
Purple People is a support group for you who have and have had depression, anxiety and related disorders.
A Purple Person should ideally have been diagnosed with any of the mentioned or related illnesses by a professional.
OR
A Purple Person should have recognized the signs within themselves that they have or have had mental health issues.Purple People group will also occasionally host professionals.
Why the name Purple People?
Often when one is depressed or experiencing some mood disorder, it is said she/he is blue and/or feeling blue.
However out of blue comes the color purple, which represents royalty, wisdom, dignity, devotion, peace of mind, independence, power, ambition etc — a whole lot of positive attributes which we are capable of being or feeling.
We are capable of living a Purple Life, and to the fullest, so we are “Purple People”.
Our Aim
We are quite an awesome and enterprising bunch. However depression, anxiety and other disorders are able to impede our journeys to being our very best.
At Purple People we listen to each other because of our common experiences, we shed light on our various coping strategies to help each other, we seek external help, we share and take seriously our resource material, we grow — so we live to be our Purple best.And when the time comes and you as an individual are confident of your own growth, you can do outreach to help others.
Some guidelines
Privacy: We are big on privacy. What happens at Purple People stays at Purple People.
We even take it further by giving people the option to share their stories or keep it to themselves. One doesn’t always have to share, silence can be golden here.
Some members are prone to ruminating over how they might have given themselves away. We don’t want our rituals to further stress anyone. If you wish not share, that is fine.
Meetings: We meet at Impact Hub (Accra) every Monday or Tuesday at 7.00pm — 8.30pm.
