One of the core tenants of leadership is how these leaders make us feel. We will always remember the emotions that various people invoke and in leadership positions, we’re going to feel them more than ever. True leadership — and good leadership — is based on how well individuals with power recognize this and use their platform in order to make others happy.

On global scales, there is more nuance to it because no matter what you do there will be large groups of people who won’t be happy with your decisions. But in the case of smaller scales, such as inside businesses, the amount of displeased people could be next to nothing.

Becoming a good leader means adopting those values — that people do feel and you want to make most or all feel good — and facing brutal truths on your way to getting there. Here are some you want to be aware of.

Similar to the idea that you can’t please everyone, that in itself is a conflict. As such, you will need to know that not every initial idea is going to be a slam-dunk. There will be people not happy about your decisions or think the idea is stupid.
