What Men and Women Want in a Godly Cat.

I’m resurrecting this post I wrote a few years ago. Back in November 2013, a few articles were published in Relevant Magazine about what a Christian man and a Christian woman would want in a godly woman or a godly man, respectively. Click the links to see those helpful articles. This is a response to those articles, with my own helpful tips on choosing the right pet for you — another one of life’s important decisions.

First of all, it’s important to remember that cats are adorable and should never be replaced with dogs. Scripture could not be more clear. Dogs in the bible are depicted as licking sores [Luke 19:21] — uhmmm gross. They also eat their own vomit [Proverbs 26:11]. It’s clear from Revelation 22:15 that dogs won’t even be in the kingdom of heaven. Don’t waste your time. Still not convinced? Look at this cute kitteh. How could you not love this cat in deep prayer?

So now that we’ve definitively proved that cats are way better than dogs, how do we pick the right, godly cat for us? First of all, this cat will take Scripture seriously. 2nd Timothy 3:16 says “All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness” so this kitty will have a love of reading the bible.

Second, your kitty cat will not neglect meeting together with fellow believers. As Hebrews 10:24–25 says, “And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near.” This kitteh will just love church.

Most of all, your kitty will love Jesus as his or her savior. Luke 10:27 says “He answered, “’Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind’; and, ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’” Find a kitty that loves Jesus.

I hope this helpful advice in your discernment of picking the right cat. It’s a stressful decision but it’s also one of the most important decisions of your entire life. 2nd Corinthians 6:14 says “Do not be yoked together with unbelievers. For what do righteousness and wickedness have in common? Or what fellowship can light have with darkness?” Finding Godly fellowship with your cat will lead to much sanctification and accountability.
