The 6 Steps to Attracting Money in your Life
After being just thirty-three pages into Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill, I have to say that it really does deserve all of the attention it gets in the personal development community. The introduction and first two chapters alone are enough to change your life, and there are fifteen chapters.
This is seriously a book that you need to get your hands on, take notes from, and read over and over again. If you internalize the material and actually, consistently apply what is being taught within its pages, then you are guaranteed success, and history backs that up.
That being said, there is a section of the book in what I’ve read so far that shares six practical steps for attracting wealth into your life, and I think my readers will find a lot of value in them.
Read them carefully and apply them into your life. You have nothing to lose and everything to gain. Also, keep in mind that this principle doesn’t just apply to money, but any form of success that you are holding in your head.
The 6 Steps to Attracting Money into Your Life
1. “Fix in your mind the exact amount of money you desire.”
It seems as thought the law of attraction works better if you avoid generalizing and tell your mind exactly what it is that you want, at least from what I’ve read so far.
To begin the process, identify exactly how much money it is that you desire.
2. “Determine exactly what you intend to give in return for the money you desire.”
This one is a little harder to interpret when it stands alone, and I’m not sure if there is context provided later in the book or not.
What I think Napoleon is referring to is the value and service of your work and not the work itself.
Instead of focusing on what work you will do to get the money, focus on what you are offering the world in exchange for the wealth.
He continues in this step, “There is no such reality as something from nothing.” I think this and future statements address a common misconception about the law of attraction, but more on that later.
3. “Establish a definite date when you intend to possess the money you desire.”
Again, everything is about knowing exactly what it is that you want and when do you want it. You have to be very specific with your desire.
I obviously don’t have much experience with this personally, but from my understanding on how the law of attraction works, you obviously don’t want to select a date like tomorrow or next week, even a few months from now.
You need to give your desire and obsession time to grow and internalize into your subconscious. I would think a year at minimum should be fine, but again I am not experienced as to how well this works in my own life.
4. “Create a definite plan for carrying out your desire, and begin at once, whether you are ready or not, to put this plan into action.”
This statement slightly surprised me and made me have more respect for the theory (or law) in general.
Nothing will work if you keep everything in your head. It all starts in the mind, but the obsession and desire needs to carry itself out in the form of action. It’s the only way to get results.
5. “Write out a clear, concise statement of the amount of money you intend to acquire, name the time limit for the acquisition, state what you intend to give in return for the money, and describe clearly the plan through which you intend to accumulate it.”
Notice the word choices in these instructions — definite, exactly, clearly, etc.
You have to tell your mind exactly what it is that you want and write it down. Not only do you write it down for future referencing, but the process of writing down an idea further internalizes it and makes you more likely to follow through with what you have written.
The clearer the image that you are feeding your mind is, the better. So state your desires clearly.
6. “Read your statement aloud, twice daily, once just before retiring at night, and once after arising in the morning. AS YOU READ — SEE AND FEEL AND BELIEVE YOURSELF ALREADY IN POSSESSION OF THE MONEY.”
(“The all-caps is Napoleon’s doing, not mine.”)
The last emphasized statement is probably the hardest thing about carrying out the law of attraction.
It’s hard to convince your subconscious of something that is not true, and that is why it is recommended twice daily, especially before going to sleep. Thoughts during sleep are better planted into the subconscious mind.
This is a process that requires time and true obsession.
Just by knowing these six steps alone and applying them, this information is all you need to change your life.
So many people think that the law of attraction is just sitting on the floor of your bedroom and attracting wealth by thinking about money.
You have to become truly obsessed with your desire for wealth. This desire cannot help but carry itself out in the form of action. If you truly desire something, you will not forget about it when you are finished “meditating” on it.
Your burning desire has to be a flame, white hot to the touch. Such an obsessions almost seems unhealthy to me.
When you become truly obsessed and will not accept failure as an option, that’s when you the law of attraction begins to do its work. You need a plan of execution and take action.
The law of attraction is really the law of attrACTION, and I think that that is the biggest misconception that people have about it.
Think in your head exactly how much money you want and exactly when you want it by. This also applies to forms of success outside of money. Write this down, along with what you will offer in exchange for the money. Read this statement twice a day, once when you wake up and once before you sleep.
But will you do it?
