Every week, we compile a list of 5 great articles — one for every work day of the week. Want to suggest a post for this series? Let us know!

This week, we’ll break out our ties and pantsuits, because we’ll talk about business. We’ll also look at efficient research methods and how to cast the smoothest of shadows. Enjoy!

Monday: Back to School

What’s better than a semester of business school? Getting the gist of that semester in under 15 minutes! In this convenient Twitter thread, Alen Faljic breaks down the most fundamental economic concepts and explains how they are relevant for designers.

Tuesday: All Cards on the Table

If you’ve ever done design in an enterprise context, chances are that you’ve been looking at tables a lot more than you might be comfortable with. Thankfully, Stephanie Walter is here to help and has collected a great list of resources for how to design better tables.

Wednesday: Dataviz Wizard

Of course, many tables can be understood much more easily in the form of a visualization. When things get particularly complex, it might even make sense to invest in an interactive visualization. Kai Wong helps you with this decision with this guide.

Thursday: The Pragmatic Research Toolbox

Regardless of what you’re designing, research should be the foundation of what you do. This handy overview of research methods that can be used on short notice by Jordan Bowman will help you get better insights, faster.

Friday: A Shady Spot

Shadows! They had their heyday in the times of skeuomorphic design, before almost disappearing with the rise of flat design. Now we are rediscovering them as a useful tool for our UIs. Josh W. Comeau explains the theory and practice of shadows that don’t look like they’re a decade old.

Bonus link! If you got inspired by that piece about shadows, be sure to check out this handy generator for layered box shadows by Philipp Brumm.

And with that, back to business! Have a great week everyone!
