I Don’t Have To Keep The Peace, But I’ll Protect My Peace.
When others are rude or give poor customer service.
We’re all overworked, understaffed, and underpaid.
As a teacher, this holds true for me.
As a woman, this holds true for many.
In this post-pandemic world, this also holds true for many.
But your hard isn’t any harder than my hard. When I go out for a drink with my friends and I’m not working, then I expect to be treated with dignity.
Except some women, don’t see me. Or maybe they do. Maybe they see me and it makes them not want to see me. I don’t know. It’s not my problem to figure out.
It’s not my problem to make myself feel small to make others feel better. I’m sick and tired of being told I’m “causing a scene” when I address poor customer service, because I don’t have to keep the peace but I’ll protect my peace.
Last night when I respectfully and patiently asked the waitress if she could “please” clean up the table “when she had a chance” (because I wanted to sit closer to our friends), she replied rudely.
