I Was Going To Be That Mom, You Know
a poem
I was going to be that mom, you know
the one who makes homemade baby food
in little tiny ice trays, all lined up cup by cup
diced and pureed fresh fruit and veggies
at least that's how it started…
I was going to be that mom, you know
the one who never misses a school email
I was going to be that mom, you know
the one who always remembers your favourite snack
I was going to be that mom, you know
the fun one, the happy one — that mom
I was going to be that mom, you know
the one who would cut up the chicken nuggets
into even smaller pieces
but then life turned into a food fight
moving at such a frantic pace
in all sorts of directions
I was going to be that mom, you know
but then I became a mom I didn’t know
I was going to be that mom, you know
now I guess I’m just the only mom you will ever know.
