Society may benefit from the conveniences of technological innovations, but when social services, education, and healthcare are cut, what good are they? What’s the point of new discoveries if society can’t benefit?

If someone struggles to afford the commute to work due to inflation, what good is a well-developed transit system? If the homeless have no choice but to take shelter in the subway, making riders find alternatives to public transit, what good is it?

If society is unable to meet basic needs like food, shelter, and safety, according to Abraham Maslow’s hierarchy of needs, how are we supposed to not just survive — but thrive?

Isn’t it fair to say that the more “progressive” and fast-forward we become, the more dysfunctional and regressive we really become?

It’s hard to believe that things are worse for society, but they are. I’ve felt the pinch as a Toronto high school teacher. My income hasn’t really changed in like 5 years, whereas, the cost of living has risen drastically.

Many people are worse off now, due to inflation, rising food, and housing costs, and cuts to healthcare and education, and that’s why some don’t even stand a chance in this rat race while living hand to mouth.
