The Way We Celebrate Mother’s Day Is A Personal Choice

And that ought to be respected

The way one celebrates Mother’s Day is a personal choice. One that deserves respect for differences. While our understanding of the meaning of Mother’s Day has broadened over the years, we must also not lose sight of the purpose to celebrate moms for all they ever did and ever do for us.

I’ve seen an improvement in the way we include caregivers and mothers when it comes to marking Mother’s Day. As a mom of three boys, who experience secondary infertility and recurrent miscarriage loss, I was pleased to see how far we’ve come in our growing awareness since some find Mother’s Day challenging.

Whether it’s a mom grieving the loss of a child, or a child grieving the loss of a mom, we all know that this day can be triggering. But just how far will we go in the name of inclusion and fairness for all?

Well, one, local elementary school took it to the next level and removed a sign that some found controversial, which read “Life Does Not Come With A Manual; It Comes With A Mom.”
