Therapy Should Work For You

Therapy sounds like a good idea but for it to work — it needs to work for you and fit into your life. The one thing the pandemic gave us was more accessibility to therapy since appointments often occur online rather than face-to-face. (However, many face roadblocks due to financial reasons as therapy can be costly.)

The reason why therapy fits into my life is that my therapist is easy to work with. She accepts e-transfer, is more affordable than others, accommodates changes to appointments, and uses FaceTime. She makes it easy to see her, and so I do.

She specializes in an area that applies to my needs and family history. I had never seen a counselor that had her designation and specialty before, so I found it liberating to feel I made the right decision.

I think the thing that has surprised me the most about finding the right therapist is that it’s not about what happens in therapy — it’s so much more about what happens outside of therapy.

It’s about trying new strategies and keeping promises but sometimes it’s just about thinking something over.

It’s any wonder I returned to therapy after so many bad experiences. The therapists barely scratched the surface. This time around therapy must…
