What’s Beneath Your Anger
How to recognize the host of primary emotions beneath your anger that needs your attention
Do you think anger is a primary emotion or a secondary one? Is anger the “bad guy” that should never let be seen? In the following story, I’m going to help you understand your anger and bring awareness to it so you can learn what might be beneath your anger.
Scenario 1: Your manager gave you a two-week deadline for a project submission on which you have been dedicatedly working and you’re midway. He calls you into his office and tells you “I need that project by tomorrow.” Your manager has no sensitivity and this is the fifth time he’s done that in your time at the company. You feel anger towards your manager.
Scenario 2: Your parent never heard you as a child. They invalidated your emotions and needs. It hurt you deeply to experience that at a time in your life where you needed to be shown, love. You felt helpless and powerless due to your fear of losing them. So you bottled up your emotions. You rebel against your parent during your teenage years. As an adult, you feel anger towards them for the injustices done to you.
