When You Step Off The Ride

and there’s nowhere to hide in the thickets and pickets of your mind because you bought a new ticket — a new ticket to ride.

When you step off the ride
and there’s nowhere to hide
in the thickets and pickets of your mind
because you bought a new ticket —
a new ticket to ride

When something or someone
has a hold on you
and dopamine plays a role
taking total control
and takes its toll
and makes you pay
an endless toll
— it all looks so basic
when you’re off the hook
and the party is all done
and it’s just you
cleaning up the confetti
empties, and wannabees
or the fallen feathers
that were plucked
from the boa
just discarded there
on the carpet
— lifeless
