Putt: How to manage your golf group

Running a golf group is like herding kittens — it can be hard, sometimes harder than golf itself. There are so many things to do, and so many people to please. Some of the things you or your group captain may find yourselves doing regularly are:

  • Scheduling your next group round. With this comes asking (and asking and asking) your group members who is available to play on that given day.
  • Reviewing (and re-reviewing) scorecards once each game is complete to ensure that Bob remembered that he scored 2 points instead of 3 on the stroke 15 because he is a 14 handicap.
  • Comparing all scorecards to know where everyone placed on the day.
  • Manually (and tirelessly) inserting everyone’s scorecards into some sort of tracking system like an Excel spreadsheet to keep track of each and every game of the season, not to mention having to pull this spreadsheet out each time someone asks what the leaderboard looks like.

This is a lot of work, especially if your group (like mine) plays a lot of golf. It is even harder if you run a social group where the majority of players aren’t familiar with the rules of golf and the scoring thereof — these are the groups that need the most attention.

A tool for tools

Putt is a mobile application that streamlines all of the most common group management tasks for you, ensuring that the biggest challenge of your day (and season) is on the course and not in calculating the results when you’re done.

4-ball scoring

There is no need for everyone to be responsible for their own scoring. Nominate the most trustworthy, least likely to have a foot-wedge type of player in each four-ball to score for the rest. Simply set up a scoring group with the 3 other players in your four-ball and you are good to go.

Putt does the heavy lifting and can guarantee that all points are calculated based on each players handicap with pin-point accuracy. This ensures that the final scores are exactly that, final — no more searching helplessly for an eraser to fix those errors on the scorecard. It also ensures that everyone ‘blacks-out’ on the correct score, handicaps are there for a reason.

Seasonal Leaderboards

Putt keeps track of each and every round of the season, making it easy to know where everyone stands at all times. The leaderboard is currently based on total Individual Stableford points, and other customisable options will be available in the near future.

You can also view leaderboards (and rounds) from past seasons, helping you keep track of your golf group forever (or until you sell the clubs you threaten to sell after each bad round).

Round Scheduling

Schedule a future round to keep your members in the loop. Once a round has been scheduled, all of your group members will receive a notification telling them that they should make their attendance known. No more nagging - just pummel them relentlessly with notifications until they submit to your brute strength.

An added bonus is being able to tell Jimbo to check the ‘blerry’ app when he inevitably asks you what time the first tee off is for the 10th time since Sunday.

Live Scoring

Did you just watch Peter fluff one in the rough? Did he mark down a par and try to get away with it?!? Our live scoring feature will give you the edge and ensure you catch him out before he beats you by a single stroke and deceives his way to victory. He thought he was safe because he was in the four-ball ahead of you…Not today Peter, not today.

Live scoring helps you stay on track with how the group is performing as a whole — there is no need to risk the high fade over the duck pond to the back right pin if you are 3 points ahead!

Stats Tracking

Having to remember each and every mistake your playing partners are making over 18 holes can be a serious task — and no one wants to be the guy who can’t come up with a suitable fine at the 19th hole.

Putt tracks statistics for each round (per player, per round and per season) allowing your group to get a true understanding of who is performing at which ends of the leaderboard.

Available now

Putt is available on both the Google Play and Apple App Store and is completely free.

These features are completely wasted if you don’t download the app and use them! Not using the app would be like using a 4° lob wedge in a fluffy lie (nervous laugh).
