A lot of thoughts, behaviours and emotions escape our conscious self, and we just repeat “programmes” that we have acquired over time, without questioning their efficiency. Catherine gives us 4 tips and tricks to avoid this and release our leader.

Catherine Piana has been our guest speaker for the event “Unlock the Leader in You” last May. We asked her to share again with us some tips and tricks to have more control over the way we function and therefore unlocking the leader in us. Below what she suggests.

#1 Don’t believe everything you think
If you believe that you are in control of what you think, how you feel and what
you do, know that it is merely a belief, and not an objective reality. We have
60,000 thoughts a day, of which 2/3 are negative, and a vast majority,
unconscious. Thoughts are our strengths and can also be our weaknesses. The
only way to gain more understanding of the thinking process, and ensuing
emotions and actions, is to gain more awareness of what is going on “inside”.

#2 The first important step to leadership is to know yourself
Becoming more aware of what you think, feel and do, and what drives you to do so will make you gain more understanding and knowledge about yourself. This is the key to a better and more sustainable form of leadership. If you do not know what shapes your decisions, what are your drivers, important values and supporting and limiting beliefs, you might as well lead in the dark by pushing random buttons. Sure, some people know and understand themselves better instinctively, and are quite good at self-diagnosis, but remember #1 … you shouldn’t believe everything you think…

#3 You have all the resources you need
It’s all there in store for you to go and tap into. There are ways to access your
resource of confidence, for example, and amplify it when and where you need it. Your brain can learn new things all the time, and gain new habits thanks to the scientifically demonstrated effects of neuroplasticity. What works for people who have suffered brain injuries can work for you too.

#4 How about creating the best possible version of yourself?
There are simple tricks to become more confident, calmer, more charismatic and influential, or a better and more authentic speaker, if you are ready to let go of a small part of your ego and go on a journey to discover who you are, what you really want, and where the resources are that will help you reach your goals.

As an influence consultant trainer and coach, I have seen many spectacular
transformations of some of the skills I list above, literally from one day to the
next. If you are interested in finding out more about how this is possible, feel free to contact me Catherine@geckostrategies.com
