PWiC: Introducing Team Dubai
PWiC Dubai started its team building efforts in October 2019 and organized the first ‘Meet and Greet Session’ on October 27th.
PWiC Dubai has been very active this year. In February, in collaboration with Ananke, Dubai chapter facilitated Google’s initiative for empowering women ‘I Am Remarkable’. The newly formed chapter then conducted two additional events ‘Back to work’ and ‘What is not Product Design’ in the same month.
More recently, PWiC Dubai held a social meetup where the attendees shared their personal experiences and discussed ways to build a stronger community.

Zobia Badar-ul-Huda
PWiC Chapter Lead — Dubai | Software Engineer
Zobia is a Software Engineer at Careem, Dubai. After leading projects focusing on customer growth and retention in the customer experience team, she moved to the booking platform team, which handles the entire ride experience for customers. Dealing with a massive scale where every piece of code she writes is solving the problems of millions of people, she falls in love with her work every day. She likes to push herself out of the comfort zone pretty much every day to learn something new or to help someone else grow.
Coming from a very humble background and struggling through her way to what seems like a success today, she understands the importance of timely exposure and a helpful community. She strongly believes in lifting each other and being a helping hand wherever possible. PWiC is one of the most exciting chapters of her life because it focuses on two of her interest areas, i.e., bridging the gender gap in tech and community building.
Along with work, she makes sure to have some time for herself and loves spending her time reading, working out, traveling, and taking care of the people around her.

Bushra Shahid
PWiC Co-Lead — Dubai | Software Engineer | iOS Development Instructor
Bushra is a Software Engineer for iOS at Careem. She is working on the Careem iOS application used for booking rides by millions of users every day. She also conducts iOS training workshops.
Bushra is a strong advocate of equality in all areas of life for everyone regardless of their gender, race or ethnicity. She dreams about a world where people have equal opportunities for learning, growth and fulfillment and are able to follow their dreams and passions. She loves to travel and enjoys reading. She recommends everyone to read the book ‘The Alchemist’ as she finds it the most motivating piece of writing.

Faiza Anwar
PWiC Marketing and Connect Lead — Dubai | Software Engineer
Faiza is a Software Engineer with 3 years of experience in network and cloud based applications. She had been working at PLUMgrid where she got a chance to work with a multinational team spanning across different time zones. She also holds a Masters in Computer and Communications Security. Recently, she shifted her focus towards machine learning and AI. She is also getting her hands dirty with some open source projects on Github.
Faiza is a strong supporter and promoter of women in STEM and a diversity and inclusion advocate. She is a curious person and loves to learn and read. She enjoys traveling and always welcomes new experiences.

Fouzia Shahzad
PWiC Content Lead — Dubai | Educator
Fouzia, who has a dynamic profile, made her journey through one of the best universities in Pakistan i.e., FAST. Upon graduation, she entered the software industry where she developed mobile based applications. She took it further by utilizing her passion for teaching and strong communication and organization skills, in interacting with young students in smart learning environments. She has over 7 years of experience in teaching with the ability to appreciate and inspire children.
She recently shifted to Dubai and continues her passion by pursuing further roles in community building. Additionally, she loves to explore new places and has a thirst for learning new things.

Maria Khan
PWiC Design Lead — Dubai | Product Designer
Maria is a Product Designer, currently working at one of the region’s most-loved brands, Careem.
Majoring in Computer Science, she discovered her passion for the people at the other end of the products very early on. This led her to pursue a career in User Experience Design, which enables her to creatively solve real world problems, and improve people’s lives by building useful products.
She believes in sharing knowledge with the broader tech community, and being a role model for other young women. She’s given talks at various events including Ng-girls, WomenInTech, and Google I/O Pakistan.
At Careem, she’s part of the team that focuses on the core ride-hailing customer experience.
At home, she enjoys reading books, playing tennis, and beating her husband at scrabble.
