In February, PWiC Seattle had a very successful workshop on personal and team leadership skills. This was the last in person event before the social distancing measures were put in place. The event was led by a renowned speaker Youssef Gaboune, founder and CEO of Humanizers. The turnout was great, considering it was held on a Monday evening. The event was attended by an audience of diverse backgrounds, ranging from engineering managers to individual contributors, university students and homemakers. The representation from the industry comprised of employees from Facebook, Costco, Salesforce, Microsoft and Expedia. The participants were eager to share their challenges in their companies which are reflective of the different mindsets and cultures that currently prevail in the software Industry.

The workshop gave people hands on experience on important topics such as:

  • how to work with groups
  • ways to break the ice with new people
  • how to discover not only your own strengths but also your team’s strengths to reach maximum productivity
  • strategies for self-discovery that would help you recognize your strengths enabling you to reach a successful career.

The highlight of the event was the workshop on Public Speaking, one of the key pillars of leadership. The audience was very interested in this topic and the presenter did a great job going over the art of public speaking, internal and external biases surrounding it, and the various resources to help you be a great public speaker.
