[Web3 Traveler’s Guide] DeFi
블록체인 기술의 창시자로 알려진 Satoshi Nakamoto(사토시 나카모토)는 논문 ‘Bitcoin: A Peer-to-Peer Electronic Cash System’을 통해 제삼자인 금융기관을 중심으로 이뤄지는 기존 금융 거래 방식의 한계를 지적했습니다. 거래를 중개하는 금융기관에 높은 수수료를 지불해야 하고 중앙 서버가 해킹당할 가능성을 배제할 수 없다는 것입니다. 블록체인은 이러한 중앙화된 금융 시스템에서 발생할 수 있는 한계를 해결하고자 등장한 기술입니다.
블록체인을 기반으로 하는 금융서비스는 모든 거래 장부, 즉 원장이 블록체인 네트워크상에 기록됩니다. 누구나 블록체인 네트워크상에서 발생한 거래 내역을 열람할 수 있지만, 거래가 오간 지갑의 주인이 누구인지는 알 수 없습니다. 투명성과 익명성을 보장하죠. 그래서 중앙 조직 없이 개인 대 개인의 거래(P2P)가 이뤄질 수 있습니다. 이러한 블록체인 네트워크를 기반으로 하는 탈중앙화된 금융 서비스를 DeFi(Decentralized Finance)라고 합니다.
DeFi 이해를 위한 기초 개념
먼저 DeFi와 관련한 몇 가지 기초적인 개념을 설명하고자 합니다.
Token
블록체인 네트워크상 구축된 개별 디지털 자산입니다. 어떤 서비스나 시스템을 사용할 수 있게 하는 Utility Token(유틸리티 토큰), 실물 자산의 소유권을 연동한 Security Token(증권형 토큰) 등 여러 유형이 있습니다.
Coin
독자적인 블록체인 네트워크(메인넷)를 기반으로 한 디지털 자산입니다. WEMIX(위믹스), KLAY(클레이튼), BTC(비트코인), ETH(이더리움) 등이 여기에 포함됩니다.
Stablecoin
가치 변동성이 심한 암호화폐의 안정성을 위해, 실제 가치를 가지는 화폐와 1:1로 가치가 연동된 화폐입니다. (여러 스테이블코인이 있지만, 현재 가장 많이 사용하는 방식을 설명하였습니다.) WEMIX$(위믹스달러)와 같이 네트워크상에서 기준통화로 여러 가치를 비교하기 위해 사용할 수도 있습니다.
Smart Contract
사전에 협의한 내용을 미리 프로그래밍해 블록체인상 전자계약 문서에 넣으면 계약조건이 충족될 때 자동으로 실행되는 블록체인 네트워크상의 계약 시스템을 말합니다. 이를 통해, 중앙에서 통제하는 주체가 없이 여러 이용자가 계약된 형태를 따라 서비스를 사용할 수 있습니다.
DeFi 금융서비스
플랫폼마다 조금씩 차이점이 존재하지만, DeFi 서비스는 크게 두 가지로 나눠볼 수 있습니다. 첫 번째는 이용자가 암호화폐를 예치하여 자산을 증식시키도록 돕는 서비스인 Staking(스테이킹)과 Pool(풀)입니다.
Staking
일정 기간 블록체인 네트워크에 화폐를 지분(Stake)으로 묶어놓고 이에 대한 리워드를 획득하는 서비스입니다. 은행 적금과 같은 개념으로 이해할 수 있습니다. WEMIX.Fi(위믹스파이)에는 Phase 2까지 예치하는 GRAND Staking(그랜드 스테이킹), 오래 예치할수록 포인트로 받는 수익이 늘어나는 DIOS Staking(디오스 스테이킹), GRAND Staking에 간접투자하여 가치가 증가하는 stWEMIX를 받는 LIQUID Staking(리퀴드 스테이킹)이 있으며, WEMIX PLAY(위믹스 플레이)의 GameFi(게임파이)에는 기간을 선택하여 예치하는 Staking이 있습니다.
Pool
Liquidity Pool(유동성 풀)에 암호화폐를 예치하면 LP(Liquidity Provider)가 되어 수익을 획득하는 서비스입니다. DeFi 서비스가 원활하게 운영되려면 중앙통제가 없는 유동성이 필요합니다. Pool은 예치된 화폐를 기반으로 다른 이용자들의 거래가 이뤄지면 LP가 이익을 얻을 수 있도록 하는 구조입니다. Staking과 다르게 예치 기간과 상관없이 언제든 자유롭게 입출금이 가능합니다.
두 번째로, 이용자는 예치된 화폐들을 기반으로 한 교환 서비스를 이용할 수 있습니다. Swap(스왑)과 Lending(렌딩)이 대표적입니다.
Swap
이용자가 가지고 있는 암호화폐를 다른 화폐로 교환하는 서비스입니다. 스왑의 이용 과정에서 발생하는 수수료의 일정 부분은 해당 Pool의 화폐 예치자, 즉 LP에게 돌아갑니다.
Lending
담보 대출과 비슷한 서비스입니다. 이용자는 보유한 화폐를 담보로 예치하고 필요한 다른 화폐를 대출할 수 있습니다. 예치한 화폐에 상응하는 가치의 토큰을 발급받아 플랫폼 내 다른 서비스에 사용할 수도 있습니다. 2023년 2월 중 WEMIX.Fi의 Lending 서비스가 오픈 예정입니다.
DeFi로 다시 만날 세계
블록체인 산업은 이제 막 시작됐습니다. DeFi는 블록체인 산업의 핵심 인프라 서비스 중 하나로서, 기존 금융 서비스가 가진 한계를 해결하고 그 외연을 NFT(Non-Fungible Token), DAO(Decentralized Autonomous Organization), Game과 같은 영역으로 확장하고 있습니다. 이용자들은 Smart Contract(스마트 컨트랙트)를 기반으로 중앙기관의 통제 없이 스스로 시장을 만들어가며 전에 없던 새로운 세계를 경험할 수 있죠. pxd-The WEMIX Team은 이용자들이 이러한 경험을 더 만끽할 수 있도록, 필요한 지식을 전달하고 편리함과 만족도를 극대화할 수 있는 UI/UX를 제공할 것입니다.

[Web3 Traveler’s Guide] DeFi
Satoshi Nakamoto, known as the creator of blockchain technology, indicated the limitations of existing financial transaction methods centered on third-party financial institutions through his thesis ‘Bitcoin: A Peer-to-Peer Electronic Cash System’. It is that we have to pay high fees to financial institutions that broker transactions and the possibility that the central server is hacked cannot be excluded. Blockchain is a technology that has emerged to solve the limitations that can arise in such a centralized financial system.
In financial services based on blockchain, the ledger of all transactions are recorded on the blockchain network. Anyone can view the transaction history that occurred on the blockchain network, but no one knows who the owner of the wallet in which the transaction occurred is. It guarantees transparency and anonymity. Therefore, it allows Peer-to-Peer (P2P) transactions to take place without a central organization. Decentralized financial services based on these blockchain networks are called Defi (Decentralized Finance).
Fundamental Concepts for Understanding DeFi
First, we would like to explain some basic concepts related to DeFi.
Token
It is an individual digital asset built on the blockchain network. There are several types of tokens such as Utility Tokens that enable the use of certain services or systems, Security Tokens that link ownership of real assets, etc.
Coin
It is a digital asset based on an independent blockchain network (mainnet). These include WEMIX, KLAY, Bitcoin (BTC), and Ethereum (ETH).
Stablecoin
It is a currency whose value is linked 1:1 with the currency that has real value for the stability of cryptocurrency with high value volatility. (There are several types of stablecoins, but we have explained the method that is currently used the most.) It may also be used to compare various values as a base currency on the network like WEMIX dollars (WEMIX$).
Smart Contract
It is a contract system on the blockchain network that is automatically executed when the contract conditions are met if the contents agreed upon in advance are programmed and put into an electronic contract document on the blockchain. Through this, multiple users are able to use the service according to the contracted form without a centrally controlled entity.
DeFi Financial Services
Although there are slight differences between platforms, DeFi services can be divided into two main categories. The first is Staking and Pool, which are services that help users increase their assets by depositing cryptocurrencies.
Staking
It is a service that binds currency on the blockchain network for a certain period of time as a stake and obtains rewards for it. It can be understood as the same concept as a bank installment savings account. In WEMIX.Fi, there are GRAND Staking that deposits up to Phase 2, DIOS Staking that increases the return on points received as it deposits longer, and LIQUID Staking that receives stWEMIX whose value increases by indirectly investing in GRAND Staking. In GameFi of WEMIX PLAY, there is Staking that enables deposit by selecting a period.
Pool
It is a service that earns profits by becoming Liquidity Provider (LP) when depositing cryptocurrency in the Liquidity Pool. DeFi services need liquidity without any central controls to operate smoothly. Pool has a structure that allows LPs to earn profits from transactions by other users based on the deposited currency. Unlike Staking, Pool enables the users to freely deposit and withdraw at any time regardless of the deposit period.
Secondly, users can use exchange services based on deposited currencies. Swap and Lending are representative examples.
Swap
It is a service that exchanges cryptocurrency that users have for another currency. A certain portion of the fees incurred in the process of using the swap goes to LP, the currency depositor of the pool.
Lending
It is a service similar to a mortgage loan. Users can deposit their currency as collateral and borrow other currencies as needed. They can also receive tokens of equivalent value to the deposited currency and use them for other services within the platform. WEMIX.Fi’s Lending service is scheduled to open in February 2023.
A World Reunited with DeFi
The blockchain industry is just getting started. DeFi, as one of the core infrastructure services of the blockchain industry, is solving the limitations that existing financial services have and expanding its scope to areas such as NFT, DAO, and Game.
