All blocks except the genesis block are linked to previously created blocks, so this structure is called a blockchain. ๐Ÿ—„

Block Height

It refers to the number that represents the location of a specific block within a blockchain. Block height can also be referred to as the block number, since all blocks except the genesis block contains references to the preceding blocks. Therefore, the height of the genesis block is 0, and the height of the first mined block is 1. In this way, the height of block can also be measured by dividing the time since the blockchain has launched by average block creation time of the chain. However, block height cannot be directly compared across blockchains, as the average block creation time varies from blockchain to blockchain. ๐Ÿ—„

It is reputation-based algorithm that validators use their reputation instead of mining or staking coins to validate blocks. The system is highly scalable as only participants who are permitted beforehand can verify blocks and transactions. However, the process require validators to verify their identification, which can be regarded as far from decentralization. ๐Ÿ—„

Proof of Stake(PoS)

It is a consensus algorithm that selects validators based on the amount of coins they are staking. Validators are then rewarded as new blocks are produced, and their locked funds act as collateral. Proof of Stake(PoS) is designed as an alternative to Proof-of-Work(PoW) and has the advantage of saving resources as it doesnโ€™t require mining. However, decision-making power can be concentrated in the hands of a minority, as it relies on the amount of stake that validators hold.
