Working with software and data is a never-ending learning process; it’s part of the fun of being a developer. So whether you’re looking to get up to speed with JupyterHub, broaden your data science toolset, or dig into deep learning and Tensorflow, the workshops at PyBay2018 this August in San Francisco offer a great chance to expand your Python skills. And now is a great time to grab your pass and register (if you haven’t already).

Session leaders include Wesley Chun, author of “Core Python”; Raymond Hettinger, who’s been a core Python developer for well over a decade; and Paige Bailey, a senior Cloud Developer Advocate at Microsoft. Joining a workshop is a great way to immerse yourself in a topic before the packed agenda at the weekend-long conference — where you can learn even more about things like going serverless for data science and Django Channels.

A quick run-down of the workshops is below. See the full program here.

[August 16]

Practice Best Practice with Bokeh

Instructor: Bryan Van de Ven (Anaconda)

Interested in creating interactive data visualizations in the browser from Python? Learn about the latest with Bokeh 1.0 and the best practices from their core developer.

Zero To JupyterHub with Kubernetes

Instructor: Jessica Forde (Project Jupyter)

Want to feel empowered to provide Jupyter to other users, get acquainted with cloud technologies, set up your own JupyterHub on the cloud, and learn how you can customize it to fit your needs? This workshop is for you!

Python for Data Scientists

Instructor: Wesley Chun (Google, CyberWeb)

So you’re a data scientist new to Python. Do you have to learn everything about the language to start making use of it? Certainly not, but there are some language fundamentals you need to be aware of.

Crash Course in C for Python Programmers

Instructor: Henry Chen (Hackbright Academy)

Are you at a point where you want to dig deeper into the implementation details of CPython, or write C extensions to optimize performance but don’t know enough about C? If so, this workshop is for you!

[August 17]

Core Data Structure Master Class

Instructor: Raymond Hettinger (Python Core Dev)

Know some Python basics and want to learn more about Data Structures? Learn about this important topic from Raymond Hettinger, seasoned Python Trainer and celebrated core Python developer for 17+ years.

Introduction to deep learning using TensorFlow, Keras, and TensorBoard

Instructor: Paige Bailey (Microsoft)

A beginner-friendly introduction to deep learning using TensorFlow and Keras! Attendees will be working through several of the newly-released tf.keras exercises on a wide variety of use cases. Paige will also be teaching Introduction to TensorBoard the same day.

Parsing Clinic

Instructor: Raymond Hettinger (Python Core Dev)

Know some Python basics and want to learn more about how to Parse Data? In this workshop you’ll learn how to harvest data in many forms, load a variety of CSV dialects, learn to use the Sniffer, and more.

Web Applications A to Z

Instructor: Moshe Zadka (Python Core Contributor, Twisted Project)

This workshop will take a tour of all the pieces that go into making a web application, and show how they all fit together — using specific choices, specific examples and a lot of hands-on programming.

Please note that workshops require a separate registration and fee from the overall conference. Workshops are $150. Make sure to get your spot early!

Don’t forget to register for the full PyBay2018 conference either. If you need financial help getting to the conference, check out the Diversity & Inclusion program details. We hope to see you there soon!
