An Update on PyData Boston Events

To the PyData Boston community:

Because of the escalating and uncertain coronavirus (COVID-19) situation, the organizers of PyData Boston have decided to postpone all in-person events (including our March event) for the immediate future. Health and safety are paramount in our group, and we believe that it would not be responsible to hold large gatherings that might put members and others in the community at risk. This follows the precedent set by other local groups such as Code for Boston, as well as other PyData chapters across the world, and we hope that members will understand our decision.

The choice to suspend the March event and the associated Open Data Competition was a particularly difficult one, because the plan for the event included awarding passes to the ODSC conference later this spring. While that conference is still currently scheduled to take place as planned, we do not feel comfortable encouraging members to attend at this time, for the same reasons we are postponing our own events. We do intend to reschedule the Open Data Competition for some point in the future, and will keep members posted.

Since we do not know when the risks from the coronavirus situation will subside, we are currently evaluating alternatives for PyData Boston events in the near future, such as virtual meet-ups and live-streamed presentations. We’ll update everyone with new developments as they occur, and in the meantime, we invite you all to join our Slack channel (https://join.slack.com/t/pydataboston/shared_invite/zt-arwul8et-zd8ThtSOc4aJxaKi4IK~5A) if you want to connect with the organizers or other members of the community.

Thanks for your understanding, and we hope everyone stays safe during this challenging time.

Best wishes,
The PyData Boston Organizing Committee
