The efforts of the last few months have finally paid off: The public Q testnet ‘Eckert’ has been successfully launched and is now available to its full extent. This is already the fifth iteration of the Q testnet and the second iteration that is open to everyone.

The development team involved in building Q has been working towards this moment for a long time. The launch of the new testnet is not only an important milestone for the project Q itself, but more importantly for the decentralized Q ecosystem consisting of developers, node operators and users. Furthermore, it is an important step towards the launch of the Q mainnet.

So why is the new Q testnet called “Eckert”? Here is the story behind the name:

Q’s testnet names are inspired by important yet not widely-known inventors. It is the tech team’s way of honoring some of the people that deserve a little more mainstream recognition than they have gotten so far. John Adam Presper Eckert Jr. fits perfectly into this category: He designed the first general-purpose electronic digital computer, ENIAC, in the 1940s. And while ENIAC is a name that is still known today (at least among computer nerds), John Eckert’s name has largely been forgotten.

John Adam Presper Eckert Jr.

His achievements in the very early days of computing inspired the tech team to name the fifth iteration of the Q testnet after him, acknowledging the contribution he made to the world of computing. You can read more about John Eckert on the Wikipedia page dedicated to him.

The Q testnet Eckert is an improvement over the previous Q testnet “Darrow”. Besides general bug fixes, it incorporates improvements and fixes based on the findings of the security audit that has been conducted on Q’s smart contracts. It furthermore launched several new features, such as the timelocks for tokens.

The main goals of the Eckert testnet are to:

  • allow everyone to test the platform with the full feature set ofthe upcoming mainnet;
  • fine-tune the user interface, smart contracts and governance of Q;
  • obtain feedback and implement possible changes before the mainnet launch.

In order to optimize the mainnet before launch, we rely on your support! An easy way to access the Q testnet is via the user interface provided under https://hq.qtestnet.org:

We encourage everyone to stress-test Q on the testnet and share your feedback with the community so that potential bugs can be fixed and user flows can be improved.

We look forward to your support and are grateful for any help. If you have any further questions or comments, please let us know!
