The Quran is filled with an infinite amount of gifts to console, heal and nourish our souls. It contains warnings and lessons from the people before us and for the times to come.

Surah Kahf is a precious pearl from the book of Allah. In its 110 verses, it discusses 4 significant themes, the trials of faith, wealth, knowledge and power. It relays the stories of people of the cave, the story of rich and poor men and their tawakkul, the story of Prophet Musa AS and Khizr AS, and finally, the story of Dhul Qurnain and Yajuj-Majuj.

It was narrated that Ibn ‘Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said: “The Messenger of Allah (may the peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: ‘Whoever reads Surah al-Kahf on the day of Jumu’ah, a light will shine for him from beneath his feet to the clouds of the sky, which will shine for him on the Day of Resurrection, and he will be forgiven (his sins) between the two Fridays.’”

Subhan Allah, the mercy of Ar-Rahman Ar-Raheem, He provides us with endless opportunities to not just repent, but His Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) gives ironclad guarantees of forgiveness when we fall weak and give in to worldly temptations.

In another narration, Rasulullah (may the peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: “(Whoever commits to memory) the last ten Ayat of Surah Al-Kahf, he will be protected from (the trial of) Dajjal.’’

The final trial to befall the ummah, Dajjal or the false Messiah will appear before the day of Judgment. He will lead people astray and shake the faith of many through temptation. Among his deceptive powers will be the ability to bring down rain under the guise of performing miracles. Nearly all Prophets have warned their people against his misguidance. Our Prophet (may the peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) also warned us against him and provided us with the remedy for protection against the evil of Dajjal.

The virtues of reading Surah Kahf are too many to list, but based on just the above-mentioned Sahih ahadith, it can be surmised that as believing men and women, we need to protect our bodies and soul. Surah Kahf’s recitation on every Friday (beginning at sunset on Thursday and ending at sundown on Friday) will ensure that our sins will be forgiven and we are suitably equipped to face Dajjal when that time comes.

Please encourage your loved ones to recite the Surah every Friday. Help them see it as an invaluable investment of 20 minutes for a successful afterlife and illumination on the day of resurrection, forgiveness, and protection against all evils.
